Abstract The global process of aircraft design and assembly relies on a standardised
set of test procedures being in place. DO 160, currently at issue E, is the answer. It
defines a set of generic tests that provide an indication to system integrators of
suitability for task in hand. Taking Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 as two examples, this
article shows us that lightning events will interact differently with the airframe and
the electronics will experience unique interference.
